Task
The assignment here is to create a video prototype that demonstrated clearly and effectively (and creatively) the functionality of a product. It is similar to a product pitch!
Scenerio & Requirements
The challenge is to create a video, 1-2 minutes (MAX) in length, that comprehensively and concisely communicate the motivation, usage, and functionality of a smart object. The requirements were very minimal and abstract:
Create a scenario, develop storyboards, shoot and edit the video, add titles or narration, etc. Use live action, not animation.
Communicate the user interaction with the smart product in such a way that communicates the purpose of the product through narrative.
The Prototype
The prototype I created and used to shoot was a product called Ulla. I made Ulla with model prototyping with cardboard, as well as reused a product from the 3D printing assignment.
Ulla is your smart assistant buddy that is able to keep track of your everyday small items. It can hold things like, you keys, opens, toothbrushes, chopsticks, and so much more.
Design Concept
For this design concept, I was inspired by "Uninvited Guests". I wanted to do something outside the box and on the darker end to represent the negative ways that smart objects can have an effect on some lives. I love this concept because we think of smart objects meaning to have a helpful impact on our lives, but what does it look like when this object gets in the way?

StoryBoard
Video Prototype:
Scenario: A boyfriend and girlfriend are living together in an apartment and they each are engaged in their own activity. Ulla is able to keep track of items and notifies each partner's cellphone when the item is there or gone. The effects of this smart devices develops a toxic relationship for the couple.
Analysis:
Overall Thoughts
I had lots of fun filming this! It is difficult to attempt to portray something so vast within such a short amount of time. After looking and analyzing the details I used from movie watching and Netflix binging, I feel like I was able to emulate an eerie feeling scene without words, Because there was no words, I wanted to tap into raw sounds, body language, and the use of space or props to represent how a couple would live together, communicate, and feel outside of being in the presence from each other. There's a lot to draw from one minute and it has made me appreciate movies even more! I love video prototype as a way to demonstrate and range from how a product can be used to the feeling or space that it create.
